Chromium and Oxidative Stress: A Global Perspective
Too much Oxidative Stress (OS) can lead to insulin resistance and inflammation, both of which we know create diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
To figure out if Chromium can be useful, several researchers from different universities in Iran, Portugal, Austria, and Croatia, got together to study whether Chromium can be a useful supplement in holistically preventing these diseases.
The group of Morvaridzadeh et al. (2022) did quite a large systemic review and meta analysis, in other words, they created a specific criteria to examine 242 research articles to figure out the correlation between chromium and oxidative stress. The question is - does chromium reduces and balances oxidative stress?
We do need a little of OS for certain activities to take place, but of course, not much, and hence the balancing act of chromium.
The chromium Morvaridzadeh et al. checked out was trivalent - Cr(III). Its status now has been elevated from an essential nutrient to actually having a therapeutic role - positively impacting lipid and glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and in both general population and diabetic patients (2022).
You can understand now the reason these researchers decided to look at a global review of chromium.
