Crosstalk Between Organs: The New Frontier?
Crosstalk between organs is a biological, complex, and systemic interaction between organs, and between organs and body (Battaglini et al., 2024).
Remember from previous emails that the body is a collective of trillions of organisms and human cells (Supra Organism), so you can image the amount of communications it takes, or crosstalk, to maintain connection and harmony, or homeostasis.
For example, when there is a heart condition, crosstalk occurs between the heart and adipose tissue, which releases a certain chain of inflammatory chemicals (messengers like cytokines) which in turn affect the crosstalk between heart and spleen, kidneys, skeletal muscles, and adipose tissues (Jahng et al., 2016; Oishi & Manabe, 2020).
When the brain is injured, acute neuro-inflammation causes many organs to suffer inflammation and dysbiosis, in the gut, liver, kidneys, and heart
Next time we will discuss crosstalk between polyphenols and gut microbiota and the effect on certain chronic diseases (i.e., Zeb et al., 2024).
Polyphenols interact with the microbiome to enact a host of activities that affects the whole body. It is a beautiful crosstalk between nutrients that five information and activate certain needed mechanism. Read the description of
