Let’s Take Action Against Pollution!

Dear Friends

In today’s world the level of assault on our bodies from pollution, pathogens and stress is so high that we need powerful medicinal foods.  Our bodies after all know exactly what and how to utilize food for therapeutic efficacy.  This is exactly why we have developed and are expanding the Therapeutic Foods Line of supplementation.

Let’s just focus for a moment on pesticide use on our foods as a source of pollution. What’s on my food? and The Environmental Working Group – (see their 2013 Dirty Dozen list) are two great website to zero in on.

Here are some mind blowing facts derived from them.  In What’s on my Food’s website they have a streaming video with the following bullet points:

  • 14 different pesticide residues found were detected in one strawberry sample.  679 of 741 tested positive for residues.
  • 14 of the 52 pesticides found on blueberries are neurotoxins, which can harm brain development and contribute to falling IQs.
  • 6 suspected hormone disruptors were found on cranberries.  These chemicals are linked to cancers, obesity and developmental disorders.
  • Atrazine, a pesticide, is found in 94% of US drinking water. Banned in Europe, atrazine disrupts hormone systems.
  • An average American child gets 5+ servings of pesticides residues in their food and water each day.
  • 888 million lbs of pesticides are applied each year in the US.  That’s nearly 3 lbs per person.

Should we be eating and farming organically?  The Environmental Working Group thinks so.  This year they added two more to their dirty dozen—Kale/collard greens + and Summer squash +.  So, the list for 2013 contains apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, hot peppers, nectarines- imported, peaches, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, sweet bell peppers.  Let’s look at their analysis of just a few:

  • Apples:  42 pesticide residues found by the USDA pesticide data program (7 known or probable carcinogens, 19 suspected hormone disruptors, 10 neurotoxins, 6 developmental or reproductive toxins and 17 honeybee toxins).
  • Celery:  64 pesticide residues found by the USDA Pesticide Data Program (13 know or probable carcinogens, 31 suspected hormone disruptors, 12 neurotoxins, 14 developmental or reproductive toxins and 20 honeybee toxins).
  • Grapes:  34 pesticide residues found by the USDA Pesticide Data Program (4 known or probable carcinogens, 176 suspected hormone disruptors, 10 neurotoxins, 6 developmental or reproductive toxins and 14 honeybee toxins).
  • Spinach:  48 pesticide residues found by the USDA Pesticide Data Program (8 known or probable carcinogens, 25 suspected hormone disruptors, 8 neurotoxins, 6 developmental or reproductive toxins and 23 honeybee toxins).

It becomes very clear doesn’t it why we need to aggressively change the world that we have created for ourselves.  Let’s each of us do a bit more to really get involved in making a difference between now and the end of the year.

Sincerely yours,

Seann Bardell
